IN THE EXCESS OF SLEEP
THE DREAM OF LUXURY WAS FULFILLED

our investigation of identity consumption began in 2004, when we relocated to berlin.

one could say that we engaged in a confrontation with ourselves in a new context. or, one could say that we engaged in a confrontation with our decontextualized selves. (see big girls don*t cry, 2005) then, we engaged in a confrontation with our context. (yes, action, 2006) we began to observe and record the social exchange of poses and gestures (flat field, 2006/7) and communication via simplistic symbolic orders (galleries, 2007).

Identity = Fashion + Gesture + Prop[erty]

in so much as identity is exchanged and consumed,
identity is a commodity.
like every contemporary commodity,
identity is configurable, designable, modular.

consider the coexistence of the following:

voluntary identification
& involuntary identification
& voluntary involuntary identification.
